dead sea

Ölüdeniz is a district of Fethiye district of Muğla province. As the name suggests, Ölüdeniz can be compared to a waveless lake. Even on very stormy and restless days, only small waves form in the Dead Sea. Oludeniz beach was chosen as the most beautiful beach in the world in 2006 with 82% of votes.

OLUDENIZ HISTORY

It tells the story of a father and son who make a living by fishing and selling. Father and son, who go fishing near Ölüdeniz, are disturbed by the storm more than expected. The storm is getting stronger and his son says there is a bay ahead and they can take shelter there, but the father has been a fisherman for years and insists there is no bay there. The father, greatly disturbed by his son's grief and fear of death, beats his son in anger and drags him into the sea. When the time is up, he can't stand the pain any longer and, with a sudden pang of conscience, kills himself on the spot.

BELCEKIZ LEGEND

Belcekiz is another area close to Ölüdeniz. The water here is more wavy and intense, unlike Ölüdeniz. It may be invoking the legend of the fisherman and his son. Sailors used to dock in this bay both to rest and to get water. Once, the sailor and his son approached this cove to get water. The moment the sailor sets foot in the handsome bay, he sees a beautiful girl and gives his heart, the girl is also impressed by him, but he has to return. For years, they think from afar and love each other in their dreams. Every time the boat approaches the bay, the girl looks from afar and smiles to see it. Once, in a big storm, his son tells his father to dock at the cove. It is said that the name of Belcekiz comes from here.

This is how the legend spread, although of course its authenticity has not been proven.
