KAYAKOY
It is known that the ancient city of Kayaköy, also known as "Karmylassos", dates back to the Greeks. When the Greeks left the city with the war that broke out in 1923, the Turks took a step to continue their lives in this city. However, the Turks had difficulty in adapting to the city and the city was completely abandoned. There are two beautiful towns in Kayaköy. These settlements are known as "Levissi" and "Kayı Village". The city, which was shaken by the earthquake decision in 1957, has not lost its importance until today. Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu, a close friend of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was also born here; It can be said that this is another important historical aspect of the city. The name of the city was called "Levissi" by the Greeks and "Taşlıköy" by the Turks. The history of the city, which was founded on Lycian ruins at the end of the 19th century, dates back to the years before Christ. It dates back 3000 years. The Lycian civilization is located on the Teke Peninsula. The people of the city made their living by tobacco, viticulture, winemaking, trade and crafts. While the population of the city has historically averaged 2,000, in the 20th century the population of the city began to increase due to immigration.
BUILDINGS IN KAYAKOY
Although it has been destroyed, there are still magnificent structures in this city, which is known as a "ghost city" by more than one person due to its battering and destruction of most of its structures. Upper Church (Taksiyarhis) was established on a hill in the middle of the city, and Lower Church (Panayia Pirgiotissa) was established on the western border of the city. A school building, which is divided into two as “Girls School” and “Boys School”, was built by the Lövisidi brothers, according to rumors. The city also contains a windmill located approximately 100 meters west of the West Chapel and a windmill located at the beginning of Değirmentepe to the southwest of the Rock Pit. However, unfortunately, only a few of these windmills have survived.
